The Fire Investigations and Advanced Modeling of Multi-scale Applications (FIAMMA) Lab at San Diego State University, led by Assist. Prof. Luca Carmignani, is dedicated to advancing our understanding of material flammability and fire behavior across different scales. Our research encompasses a wide range of applications, from fire safety—focusing on the ignition and flame growth of solid materials under various ambient conditions—to the modeling of vegetation flammability in wildfire applications. Utilizing both experimental and computational techniques, the lab studies materials such as acrylic slabs, fabric materials, and plant materials in controlled environments.
